It is a relatively dry, desert-like region with significant irrigation. The region is inhabited by about 6 million people.<br /></strong><br />The Yellow River flows through a vast area of its land. Ningxia’s deserts include the Tengger desert in Shapotou.<br /><br />Ningxia is divided into five prefecture-level cities: Guyuan (固原), Shizuishan (石嘴山), Wuzhong (吴忠), Yinchuan (银川) and Zhongwei (中卫).<br /><br />Yinchuan is the capital of the Hui autonomous Region Ningxia, at the centre of the north of China.<br /><strong></strong></p><p><strong>Attractions<br /></strong>At the district are beautiful scenic spots to visit, like the Xixia tombs, the mysterious 108 Dagoba's at Qingtongxia or mount Helan Shan.<br /><br />One of Ningxia’s main scenic spots are the famous Xixia Tombs which are located 30 km west of the capital Yinchuan.<br /><br />These remnants of nine Western Xia emperors’ tombs and two hundred other tombs are located within a 50-km² area.<br /><br />Other famous sites are the twin pagodas of Baisikou and the desert research outpost at Shapatou.
